1. Spatial layout of industrial robot industry in Dongguan: two major industrial robot industry clusters have been formed

At present, a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial change are accelerating, and a new generation of information technology, biotechnology, new energy, new materials and robot technology are deeply integrated, and the robot industry is ushering in a window period of upgrading and leapfrog development. The development of industrial robot industry is one of the important paths for the high-quality development of manufacturing industry. Dongguan encourages the promotion and application of industrial robots in the “14th Five-Year Plan for the High-quality Development of Dongguan Manufacturing Industry” and the “Dongguan New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan (2019-2030)” policies. At present, two major industrial robot industry clusters have been formed: Songshan Lake International robot industry base, Xiegang Town Silver bottle high-end equipment industry base.

2. Analysis of the development status of industrial robot industry in Dongguan City

— The output of industrial robots in Dongguan has ranked first in the country for three consecutive years

Since 2014, Dongguan began to vigorously develop the robot industry, and established the Songshan Lake International Robot Industry Base in the same year. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Professor Li Zexiang team created a market-oriented, corporatized operation of the new R & D institution Dongguan Songshan Lake Robot Industry Development Co., LTD., under the Songshan Lake International Robot Research Institute to develop the Dongguan robot industry.

Since 2015, the base has adopted a project – and project-based education model, and cooperated with Dongguan University of Technology, Guangdong University of Technology, and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to build a Guangdong-Hong Kong Robotics Institute. By the end of August 2021, Songshan Lake International Robot Industry Base has incubated 80 entrepreneurial entities, with a cumulative total output value of more than 3.5 billion yuan. As far as Dongguan is concerned, there are about 163 robot enterprises above the scale of Dongguan, and industrial robot R&D and production enterprises account for about 10% of the national total.

In 2022, the output of industrial robots was 165,700 units, accounting for 41.2% of the national output, an increase of 2.1% year-on-year, ranking first in the country for three consecutive years.

2) The number of industrial robot enterprises in Dongguan has fluctuated and will reach a new high in 2022

According to the enterprise check cat query data, the number of newly registered industrial robots has fluctuated in recent years. As of May 2023, there are more than 9,000 registered enterprises related to the intelligent terminal industry in Dongguan, and the number of new enterprises continues to grow as a whole; In 2022, the number of registered enterprises in the intelligent terminal industry in Dongguan was 2,199, reaching the highest point in history, indicating that the development trend of the industrial robot industry in Dongguan is positive.

From the perspective of the spatial layout of key enterprises, at present, many towns and streets in Dongguan City have the distribution of enterprises in raw materials, robot manufacturing and robot sales, while the representative enterprises of the industrial robot industry are mainly distributed in Songshan Lake Park, which is mainly planned and constructed by the government and has a good industrial agglomeration effect. In addition, Humen, Chang ‘an, Dalang Town, Xiegang town industry chain layout is also relatively good.
