The remote EIO head module 140CRP31200 is manufactured by Schneider Electric for use as the head module on a local Quantum EIO installation. What task does the EIO head module perform on the local rack? The Modicon 140CRP31200 head EIO module allows the PLC to communicate with an Ethernet network and enable control of remote I/O devices.

Features of the 140CRP31200

The external Features of the Modicon 140CRP31200 head EIO module are an LED, a service port, and interlink port, a device network port, and a second device network port.  The LED is on the top front of the module.  Directly under LED I the service port (ETH1) followed by the interlink port (ETH 2). Below are the ETH 3 and ETH 4 device network ports. In order to keep the device running best, use the port stopper when the connections are not in use.

These ports allow for diagnostics of the ports and give access to external tools and devices. They provide connectivity to other Quantum EIOs, and they allow for I/O communication.

The primary function of the Modicon 140CRP31200 is to provide I/O scanning services. The I/O scanning services are meant for remote I/O devices. The I/O devices can be on a remote I/O network or a device network that has remote I/O and distributed I/O devices. The EIO head module uses a daisy chain loop topology to manage the remote I/O network. The Modicon 140CRP31200 is connected to a remote I/O network main ring.

Other Ethernet services can also be executed by the Modicon 140CRP31200. It can perform diagnostic functions as well as configuration for remote I/O devices.

Each local rack can only have one 140CRP31200 configured on it as it has interfaces that communicate with the Ethernet remote I/O devices on the network.

All of the modules that are on the Ethernet remote I/O can communicate with the PLC on the Ethernet network through the 140CRP31200 EIO head module which is able to make determinations about the exchange between them.
