The TEPI1 interface is part of the utility grade universal multiplexer FOX615 which provides specific solutions for power utility applications. TEPI1 has been specifically designed for distance protection applications. Therefore it provides exactly the features required by the application and fulfils the relevant teleprotection product standards such as IEC 60834-1 and IEEE 1613 as well as EMC standards EN 61000-6-3 and EN 61000-6-2. The highly integrated FOX615 solution with TEPI1 for distance protection application provides many benefits for power utilities such as fast alarming in case of problems, full remote configuration and control possibilities using the network management system and higher availability due to less individual boxes and redundant channel routing.
The four TEPI1 teleprotection commands are fully interoperable with FOX515 TEBIT. This means that an extension of a FOX515 network is easy possible by just adding a FOX615 with TEPI1. The performance of your teleprotection application is fully guaranteed.
TEPI1 architecture
The TEPI1 is part of a large complement of interface modules which can be plugged into a FOX615 shelf. Like all FOX615 modules TEPI1 is:
– powered from the FOX615 shelf
– configured by FOXCST
– supervised by FOXMAN-Management system
Two front connectors provide access to the teleprotection and general purpose (binary) inputs and outputs. The same are galvanically isolated and provide highest EMC immunity for harsh environment. TEPI1 includes a non-volatile event recorder with an outstanding accuracy, which can be synchronized by GPS (Global Positioning System).

Teleprotection signalling: TEPI1 provides four high speed, high power command inputs/outputs and two programmable auxiliary relays. The transmission of four teleprotection commands in one individual 64 kbit/s time-slot in two different directions is supported. The following key features for teleprotection are supported:
– 4 command inputs, software configurable for trip voltage levels from 24 to 250 VDC
– 4 high speed, high power command outputs
– very secure and dependable command transmission fully compliant with IEC 60834-1
– 8 bit channel addressing scheme prevents wrong cross-connections
– very fast 1+1 trail protection switching (< 5 ms) in case of link failure ensures highest reliability of the communication channel
– continuous performance monitoring and trip transmission time measurement for each command
– non-volatile event recorder and trip counters
– possibility of logical operation of command inputs and outputs
