The working principle of argon ion laser is mainly based on two processes: gas discharge and self-excited oscillation.
First, gas discharge is a prerequisite for the production of argon ions. In argon ion lasers, the argon gas is usually placed in the workshop of the laser by AC high voltage discharge. Under the action of a high voltage electric field, argon molecules are ionized to form argon ions and free electrons. As the electrons accelerate in the electric field, they collide with the argon ion, transferring cold energy to it and leaving it in an excited state.
Secondly, when argon ions undergo a non-radiative transition from the excited state to the ground state, a group of photons will be released, which is the argon ion laser. In order to achieve high efficiency, stability and low noise self-excited oscillation, it is necessary to adjust the ion excitation level and the light intensity in the cavity, which is the key to prepare effective, stable and high power argon-ion laser.
