Product Description

The 3150-MCM is manufactured by Prosoft Technology, an Allen-Bradley encompass partner company. This module features compatibility with Allen-Bradley’s PLC platform. It occupies a single slot of the chassis only and supports Modbus Master and Slave configuration. It has Two (2) communication ports configurable for RS232 / RS422 and RS485 communication standards. These ports are individually configurable to operate as Master; Master / Slave or Slave. The 3150-MCM supports storage and transfer of up to 4000 registers to any compatible Modbus-enabled device and movement of binary, integer, ASCII, and floating-point data types. Additionally, user configuring the 3150-MCM can implement custom memory mapping through highly definable data tables. The 3150-MCM operational parameters are configured using the ladder logic programming language. Configurable slave address is 1 – 247; None, odd or even parity; 1 or 2 stop bits; 300 to 38400 stop bits; 0-65535 ms with 1 ms resolution RTS to TxD; 0-65535 ms with 1 ms resolution RTS Off and 0-65535 ms with 1 ms resolution timeout. When operating as Modbus slave, this module supports MODBUS function codes such as 1 Read Output Status; 2 Read Input Status; 3 Read Multiple Data Registers; 4 Read Input Registers; 5 Force Single Coil (Latch/Unlatch); 6 Preset (Write) Single Data Register; 8 Loopback Test (Test 0 only); 15 Multiple Coil Latch/Unlatch; and 16 Preset (Write) Multiple Data Register. As Modbus master, the 3150-MCM supports 1 Read Output Status; 2 Read Input Status; 3 Read Multiple Data Registers; 4 Read Input Registers; 5 Force Single Coil (Latch/Unlatch); 6 Preset (Write) Single Data Register; 15 Multiple Coil Latch/Unlatch and 16 Preset (Write) Multiple Data Register.

3150-MCM Modbus communication module

The Allen-Bradley 3150-MCM is a module from ProSoft Technology which enables 1746 I/O compatible processors from Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation to interface with other devices running the Modbus protocol. It features 2 serial ports which can function as a Modbus master or as a Modbus slave unit. The 3150-MCM module can be installed in either a local or extended rack, but not in a remote rack. The backplane current load of the 3150-MCM module is 0.15 Amps at 5 Volts DC and 0.04 Amps at 24 Volts DC. The size of the phase conductors used with the module must be a minimum of 1.3 millimeters squared and the size of the earth conductors must be a minimum of 4 millimeters squared. Two DB-9 male physical interfaces are available on the module.

Both serial interfaces on the 3150-MCM module are compatible with the RS-422, RS-485, and RS-232 protocols. The module also supports satellite and packet radio with programmable inter-character timeout on each port. Additional module features include the ability to transfer 4000 registers to date tables on an SLC or PLC, the ability to move ASCII, binary, and floating-point data, and memory mapping through data table configuration. The 3150-MCM module is not hot-swappable and therefore the rack power must be disabled before this module is inserted or removed. Failure to do so may cause damage to the module, processor, or other connected devices. The module should be installed in an IP 54 enclosure. The working temperature range for the 3150-MCM module is from 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature range for unused modules which are kept in storage is from -40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit.
