Product Description
The 5485C-007-020 is a high temperature speed sensor from the Metrix brand, suitable for continuous use at high temperatures up to 375°C, especially for gas turbines and other machinery with high surface temperatures where speed signals are required. The sensor uses a moving coil design that eliminates the need for an external power source and generates a self-generated signal proportional to the vibration speed. It features a zero-friction coil suspension, provides clean frequency response via two non-twisted circular spider springs, and uses pure viscous electromagnetic damping to eliminate friction-prone air damping, thereby improving detection of small vibration amplitudes at low frequencies.
The 5485C sensor can be configured with an integrated armoured cable or a removable armoured cable with a 2-pin aviation plug. The housing is made of stainless steel and the internal structure is robust to ensure durability in harsh environments.

APPLICATION
In addition, the sensor is UL intrinsically safe for Class 1, Div.1, Grps A-D, and non-ignitational for Class 1, Div.2, Grps A-D, CSA and IEC Intrinsic safety certifications are suitable for EEx ia IIC T6 environments with temperatures ranging from -54ºC to 375ºC.
According to the product data sheet, the 5485C sensor has an operating temperature range of -54°C to 375°C, a frequency response range of 15 Hz to 2 kHz, a maximum vibration level of 50 g, and a maximum displacement of 1.8 mm (70 mils) pk-pk. The weight of the sensor is about 0.2 kg (0.5 lb), and the weight of the armored cable is about 0.2 kg/m (0.13 lb/ft).
The installation manual provides installation guidance for the 5485C high temperature speed sensor, which is available in two versions: a version with a 2-pin connector (which requires an accompanying Model 4850-XXXX cable) and a fixed armored cable version. This sensor is suitable for large industrial gas turbine, furnace fan monitoring and other applications, and is certified for hazardous areas.
