Thyristor has three poles —- anode (A), cathode (C) and control pole (G), the tube core is a four-layer structure composed of P-type conductor and N-type conductor overlapping, a total of three PN junction, and only one PN junction silicon rectifier diode in the structure is very different. The four-layer structure of thyristor and the introduction of control pole have laid the foundation for its excellent control characteristics of “controlling large by small”. When thyristor is applied, a large anode current or voltage can be controlled as long as a small current or voltage is added to the control pole. Currently, we can manufacture thyristors with current capacity of hundreds to thousands of amperes. Generally, the SCR below 5 amps is called low-power SCR, and the SCR above 50 amps is called high-power SCR.
