The IC687RCM711 communications module is designed and distributed by GE Fanuc Automation. This part is used in a system known as a “Hot Redundancy System”. The purpose of the part is to synchronize the CPUs that are installed in this system. It uses existent data in the back-up unit to perform this specific operation. The module can also be used to transfer data from one CPU to another when connected to this system. The GE Fanuc Automation IC687RCM711 communications module can be wired with at least 7.5 meters of cable. It is compatible with the GE IC697 series CPUs from the same series. When it comes to installation space, this module only requires a single slot and it includes 2 different connectors. The most common slot is the one that is placed on the top cover of the module.

Unlike other similar devices, this communications module does not require any kind of isolation. This module also includes 5 LED indicators that are green to show the current status of the application process and the CPUs. For a human-machine interface, the GE Fanuc Automation IC687RCM711 communications module has a physical pushbutton. The function of this button is to change the control from the unit to the back-up unit when required. It is necessary that both units be ready to use, and once they have been switched, it is necessary to wait 10 seconds to switch them back again. This module has a current rating of 1.2 Amps.
