Product Description

The IS200EDEXG1A model is a De-Excitation module that is primarily used to function as a bridge and protection board. The prime purpose of this board is to store energy that has been provided to the generator, the energy that has been provided to the generator must be dissipated upon shutdown.

It is important when operating this board that you note that the IS200EDEXG1A board is typically controlled by the EXTB. This module provides conduction sensing feedback, plus voltage retention which will ensure that the board can still operate in case a power-failure event occurs and allows for SCR de-excitation firing. When two of the control inputs reads as true or the anode to cathode voltage related to the SCR exceeds a certain value that is when the SCR de-excitation will fire.

This board comes equipped with Hall effect conduction sensors which will sense the magnetic field produced by field current discharge that flows through the thyristor. The IS200EDEXG1A board receives power from the ESPM module, the power that should be received from that module should be 24 VDC; the EDEX module will then turn the power received into 125 VDC.

What are the shutdown operations on the IS200EDEXG1A board?

There are two shutdown operations on the IS200EDEXG1A board. One is a normal shutdown which is a stop that is initiated by an operator, the bridge will be fired at retard limit which allows sufficient time for the field to decay before the field contactors are opened. The second shutdown is an abort stop, the field contactors in this shutdown will be opened immediately.

The EDEX board is typically controlled by the EXTB board, if the EDEX board fails can the EXTB board initiate de-excitation?

Yes. The EXTB board can initiate de-excitation if necessary.

Can more than one EDEX module be connected?

Yes! It is possible to connect more than one de-excitation module with one EDEX board configured to be the Master while the remaining de-excitation modules are configured to be Slave modules. If more than one module has been connected then a firing control signal will be sent to the Master module and will then be relayed to the Slave modules, firing all modules simultaneously.
