The board houses a high-speed processor along with flash memory and DRAM.   External data comes to this board via the VCMI communications board.   Depending on the type of system, data may come to the board via process I/O (simplex) or voted I/O (TMR.)   GE manual GEH-6421, Vol II will have additional details about this. 

There are many different versions of the UCV VME controller card.  This version–the UCVE board–is used to provide one to three PROFIBUS-DP masters.   This is a communication application based on ISO/OSI model layers one and two.
