ABOUT THIS MANUAL
The purpose of this manual is fo provide the user with information onthe installation,connection and configuration of the MTL831Banalogue mutliplexer transmitler.
Cautionary Note: In common with all other elecirical apparatusinstalled in hazardous areas, this apparatus must only be installedoperated and maintained by competent personnel. Such personnelshall have undergone iraining, which included insiruction on thevarious types of protection and installation practices, the relevantrules and regulations, and on the general principles of areaclassification. Appropriate refresher training shall be given on aregular basis. [See clause 4.2 of EN 60079-17].This instruction manual supplements the reguiremenis of nationallyaccepled codes of practice, for example, lEC/EN 60079.14 inEurope and the National Electrical Code, combined withANSl/ISA-RP 12.12 in the USA. All installations should comply withthe relevant seclions of these codes.
In addition, particular industries or end users may have specificrequiremenis relaling to the safety of their installations, and theserequirements should also be met”.

1.2Product description
The MTl83lB analgue iransmitter can transfer a number ofhazardous area input signals to the safe area down a data highwayconsisling of a single twisted pair cable. lt is intrinsically safe and cantherefore be mounted in Zone 0 hazardous areas or Class l, Divisionlhazardous locafions.
The MTL831B can monitor up to 16 inputs from THC or millivol!
sources or up lo 15 inputs from 2,3 or 4-wire RTDs.
Two (i.e. dual redundant) data highway outputs are provided that cancarry both signal and power over dislances up to 3km, depending onthe application, the cable and the (noise) environment . see Section4.4. The highway cables can be simple twisled-wire pairs or pairs olwire within an lS mulfi-core cable.
