A valuable feature of the National Instruments PXI-6608 module is known as duplicate count prevention or synchronous counting mode. This feature guarantees that a counter yields accurate information in applications that are an unhurried or non-periodic external source. Duplicate count prevention is only pertinent to buffered counter applications, such as measuring frequency or period. During buffered counter applications, the counter should save the number of times an external source pulses between rising edges on the Gate signal.

The OCXO on the PXI-6608 Counter/Timer Module determines the preciseness of the user’s time measurement and pulse generation. The OCXO can be operated as a GATE or SOURCE for a counter. A third option is to utilize the OCXO as the PXI backplane clock. Any modules that are phase locked to the PXI backplane clock will obtain equivalent clock steadiness as the Counter/Timer Module.  The common reference clock signal can be utilized to coordinate numerous modules in a measurement or control system.

The PXI 6608 is run using the NIDAQmx driver software which is compatible with software packages/application development environments (ADEs) such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, or Measurement Studio.
