The XVME-428 Inte11igent Asynchronous Serial Communication Modu1e (IASCM) providesVEbus systems with eight RS-232，RS-422,or TTL seria1 ports,and a variety ofserial contro11er functions.The IAScM can transmit and receive individual char-acters or entire records over any or a11 of its eight seria1 channels.
The IASCM contains XYCON’s 68000 Inte11igent I/0 Kerne1 circuitry.This kerne1,along with on-board firmware，performs many of the time-consuming tasks required tocontro1 periphera1 devices, thereby relieving the host processor of the burden ofhand1ing these tasks. The kerne1 also provides a Terminal Driver Extension (TDE)which is an invokable mode on the XVME-428 board providing inte11igent line editingfunctions in a flexible user-configurable environment.The IASC supports a vari-ety of seria1 devices, such as termina1s ,printers and modems.
